Sustainability and excellent performance with Selene’s NextBag™ packaging for the production of FFS Tube for ExxonMobil containing 50% post-consumer recycled polymer.

Today, Selene’s commitment to optimize circular production processes for the recovery of secondary raw materials witnesses a further consolidation in the collaboration with ExxonMobil.

The project involves the development of FFS Tube for HDS (Heavy Duty Sack) containing 50% PRP (Premium Recycled Polymer), the Recycled Raw Material that maintains the mechanical properties and thickness of the film, adding the essential element of sustainability to the packaging.

“As a company involved in converting and recycling, we are committed to helping the value chain answer to the growing demands of our customers by including an increasing amount of PRP – our Premium Recycled Polymer – in the production mixes," states Luca Massari, R&D Manager at Selene.

“The performance we are registering on packaging that contains substantial percentages of our PRP are very encouraging.  FFS Tube maintains all the mechanical properties unaltered, and this means not having to change the settings on our customers’ machines, such as temperature and the production of sealing bars”.

"Compliance in order to meet regulatory obligations and the guarantee of the absence of contamination for the intended use are key points for us,” adds Klaus Urbano, Sales Director at Selene. “Ours is a rigorous process to guarantee a consistently high quality PRP.

This is one of the reasons why the traceability and suitability of the recycled material must always be accompanied by the proper documentation”.

“Our solutions meet the demand for a sustainable approach to flexible film applications by introducing post-consumer recycled content (PRP),” says Marco Rubertà, Selene’s Technical Director. "The use of recycled polyethylene for flexible packaging is gaining ground in Europe and we are discovering great interest by the entire supply chain on a worldwide level, too."

The NextBag™ production approach is Selene’s answer to the demands for environmental protection and is the perfect answer to the Plastic Strategy developed by the EU, while also adopting the commitment of the circular plastic alliance that aims to reach the target of 10 million tons of recycled plastics used in products by 2025.
